PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) — Boredom soon turned to surprised frenzy for some 600 New Jersey students.

Dominican rapper Max Agende Santos was in the house Thursday to tell the Perth Amboy High School juniors that they need to stay in school.

The 27-year-old member of the award-winning group Aventura freestyled across the stage, telling students how a strong education has helped his success.

Santos also sang two songs, “Special Someone” and “Foolish Games” from his upcoming solo album, “The Rise of the Phoenix.”

At least 80 percent of the school’s approximately 2,400 students are Latino. The event was broadcast live to the rest of the school because the auditorium was to small.
