SYNOPSIS

Santiago’s Pamphleteers: Heroes and Martyrs is an original 50-minute English subtitled film documentary about the untold story of a group of thirty-two young Dominican heroes who courageously stood poised to confront the bloody regime of General Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, a ruthless dictator who ruled the Dominican Republic with iron fist from 1930 to 1961. Led by a twenty-year old valiant young man, the group relied on secretly homemade pamphlets to denounce Trujillo’s oppressive regime and to raise awareness among the people of Santiago, the second largest metropolis in the country. Twenty-nine were apprehended, put in jail, questioned and slowly tortured.  Only two survived. This film documentary tells the true untold story of these martyrs and heroes and is complemented by an accompanying publication written by Ramón Antonio Veras titled Los Panfleteros de Santiago: Heroes y Martires.

Produced and Directed by Néstor Montilla via The Common Roots Project (CRP), an independent initiative aimed at conducting and disseminating research studies about the cultures, histories and untold stories of the Americas and the Caribbean, and Dr. María Teresa Feliciano from the Institute for Latino Studies, Research & Development and the New Jersey Conference on Dominican Affairs.

SINOPSIS
Los Panfleteros de Santiago: Héroes y Mártires es una película documental original de 50 minutos, con subtítulos en Inglés, sobre la historia inédita de un grupo de treinta y dos jóvenes dominicanos que  brava y valientemente confrontaron el sangriento régimen del General Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, el dictador cruento que gobernó la Republica Dominicana con puño de acero del 1930 al 1961. Dirigidos por un valiente joven de veinte  y dos años, el grupo utilizó panfletos hechos a mano y en secreto para denunciar el régimen opresivo de Trujillo y crear consciencia en la población de Santiago, la segunda metrópolis del país.  Veinte y nueve fueron apresados, encarcelados, interrogados y torturados.  Solo dos sobrevivieron.  Esta película documental narra la historia veraz e inédita de estos héroes y mártires y es acompañada por  Los Panfleteros de Santiago, una publicación copilada por Néstor Montilla y Dra. María Teresa Feliciano.
